Welcome to Mudita, a therapeutic space for couples and individuals seeking to shift the patterns that shape their emotional lives and relationships.

Through a depth-oriented, integrative clinical approach, the work here helps bring into focus what often feels confusing, overwhelming, or stuck beneath the surface. Over time, this creates more emotional steadiness, stronger connection, and a more grounded way of moving through both yourself and your relationships.

Hi, I'm Dr. Loka.

I’ve dedicated my career to helping individuals and families find clarity in their lives and strengthen their relationships.

My practice is named after the Sanskrit word “Mudita” — the altruistic joy one derives from helping others and seeing them experience happiness. This ethos lies at the core of my therapeutic practice. My primary goal is to help you help yourself.

Together, we’ll identify your weaknesses, strengths, and everything in between — examining your past without judgment so you can envision your future fearlessly. I’d be honored to take this journey with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is your perfect client?

I don’t believe in a “perfect” client, but I do find that my approach is most effective for those who are ready to move beyond surface-level symptoms and explore the deeper patterns of their lives. I work best with three specific groups of people:

• Committed couples who feel trapped in cycles of reactivity, withdrawal, or mistrust.
• Adults struggling with anxiety who are outwardly successful yet privately feel stuck or misaligned.
• Helping professionals and care

In our first session, we begin the process of what I call “relational sculpting.” Inspired by Michelangelo’s idea that the figure already exists within the marble, our work begins by identifying the layers that may be obscuring your true self or the core of your relationship.

While we will discuss your history and current struggles, my goal is for you to leave with a clearer understanding of your patterns and the possibility for meaningful change.

Therapy with me is an active, collaborative, and deeply human experience. I don’t believe in sitting in silent neutrality; instead, I remain engaged with you, offering observations, reframing narratives, and helping you navigate difficult emotional terrain.

My role is both to witness your pain and to help guide you toward meaningful change with warmth, structure, and insight.

The duration of therapy depends on your goals, needs, and readiness. Some clients benefit from shorter-term focused work, while others choose longer-term therapy to deepen self-understanding and relational change.

We will regularly revisit your goals together to ensure the work remains meaningful and aligned with your growth.

Not all at once, and certainly not before you are ready. I view resistance not as failure, but as a natural human response to vulnerability and uncertainty.

You have full agency over your story and the pace at which you share it. Therapy works best when trust develops gradually and authentically.

Therapy is often most helpful for individuals who recognize that their current way of living, coping, or relating is no longer serving them.

My work tends to resonate with people who are seeking greater clarity, emotional depth, authenticity, relational healing, and meaningful long-term change.

My work is Existential-Integrative, meaning I combine depth-oriented exploration with practical, evidence-based approaches tailored to each client’s needs.

I integrate frameworks such as Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

A therapist can help you better understand your patterns, relationships, emotions, and internal conflicts while providing a structured and supportive environment for change.

My role is to help translate confusion into clarity and support you in building a more intentional and self-directed life.

Therapy can lead to greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of agency and meaning.

At the same time, growth can be emotionally demanding. Exploring painful experiences or changing long-standing patterns may temporarily increase discomfort before deeper healing and integration occur.

Therapy is often most effective when supported by daily practices that encourage reflection, regulation, creativity, movement, and meaningful connection.

Depending on your goals, I may also recommend books, podcasts, mindfulness practices, or other resources that complement our work together.

The therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy. During our initial consultation, I encourage you to pay attention to whether you feel understood, respected, and appropriately challenged.

If it does not feel like the right fit, I am always happy to help guide you toward another provider better suited to your needs.

Do you work with men? Women? Couples? Adolescents?

I work with adults of all genders and couples in various stages of their relationships. While I do not provide individual therapy for adolescents, I do work with families that include teenagers, with a focus on strengthening communication and relational functioning.

For ethical and clinical reasons, there are certain situations that fall outside my scope of practice, including active domestic violence situations, severe untreated substance dependence requiring higher levels of care, active psychosis requiring multidisciplinary treatment, and court-ordered therapy or forensic evaluations.

When appropriate, I provide referrals to clinicians or programs better suited to those needs.

Currently, my practice focuses primarily on individual, couple, and family work. I am also developing workshops, retreats, consultation groups, and intensives for couples, professionals, and helping providers focused on burnout prevention, relational growth, and psychological development.

I work exclusively with adults, typically from their late 20s through their mid-50s. My practice focuses on the unique challenges that often emerge during these years, including professional pressure, relationship dynamics, identity shifts, and life transitions.

Yes. I offer secure video and phone sessions through Simple Practice, a HIPAA-compliant platform.

Clients in Illinois may choose between in-person and telehealth sessions, while clients in Pennsylvania are seen exclusively through telehealth services.

The easiest and most confidential way to reach me is through the contact form on this website or by email at dr.silvanaloka@muditanet.com.

I typically respond within 24–48 business hours.

No. As a psychologist, I do not prescribe medication. My work focuses on psychological, emotional, and relational treatment.

When appropriate, I am happy to collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, or other healthcare providers as part of an integrated treatment approach.

Yes. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in both Illinois and Pennsylvania and maintain ongoing professional training, continuing education, and adherence to ethical and clinical standards.

Yes. I keep brief clinical notes to support continuity and quality of care while remaining fully present during sessions.

All records are maintained securely through a HIPAA-compliant system.

How long have you been in practice?

I have worked in the field of mental health for over 25 years as a clinician, researcher, and university professor. My background spans clinical practice, academia, psychological research, and cross-cultural work.

My strengths lie in balancing deep empathy with clinical rigor. I work actively and collaboratively with clients while helping identify patterns, blind spots, and opportunities for meaningful growth and change.

I deeply value witnessing individuals and couples move from feeling stuck or disconnected toward greater clarity, agency, and emotional freedom. The work is intellectually meaningful and profoundly human.

Yes. I believe it is important for therapists to have personal experience with the therapeutic process. My own work in therapy has deepened my understanding of vulnerability, change, and the courage required for genuine self-exploration.

I hold a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Tirana and have spent many years working across clinical, academic, and research settings.

My background includes teaching future clinicians, conducting research, and integrating evidence-based approaches with existential and relational perspectives.

What is coaching, and do you offer it?

Yes. I offer coaching for individuals and couples seeking growth, leadership development, relational clarity, or life direction without requiring clinical mental health treatment.

Coaching is future-oriented and focused on optimization, alignment, and purposeful development.

Coaching is ideal for individuals who are emotionally stable and looking to move beyond symptom management toward intentional growth, relational design, leadership development, and long-term fulfillment.

It provides structure, accountability, and strategic support for those navigating high-level personal or professional transitions.

When Anxiety Feels Like Your Brain Is Lying to You

That tight chest, the racing thoughts, the certainty that something is about to go wrong — anxiety is convincing. But there’s a difference between feeling unsafe and actually being unsafe. Here’s how to start telling the two apart.

You Don't Have to Have a "Big Enough" Reason to Go to Therapy

A lot of people wait until they’re in crisis before asking for help. But therapy isn’t only for rock bottom. If something feels off — even if you can’t name it — that’s already enough.

The Exhausting Work of Being "Fine"

Holding it together at work, staying calm for your family, reassuring others you’re okay — it takes real energy to carry emotions quietly. This post is for everyone who’s tired of pretending.

Thank you for taking the time to read and to consider. Reaching out is often the hardest step — and you’ve already taken it. I look forward to hearing from you.
